Feng Shui for the Bedroom
The bedroom is the most impactful room for your Feng Shui, you spend a third of your life there, largely immobile, receiving whatever qi the space holds. A well-arranged bedroom supports deep sleep, immune function, and relationship harmony; a poorly arranged one undermines all three.
Key Principles
Commanding Position
The bed should face the door but not be directly in line with it. You want to see the entrance while lying down (sense of security) without being in the "coffin position" (feet pointing at the door). If the room's shape forces the bed to face the door, use a screen or footboard to soften the path.
Solid Headboard Against a Wall
Your bed should have a solid, upholstered or wood headboard placed firmly against a wall, never against a window. A solid backing gives the mind a sense of protection during sleep, which is when you are most vulnerable.
No Mirrors Facing the Bed
Mirrors reflect energy and keep qi moving, the opposite of what you want in a sleep space. If you have a wardrobe mirror opposite the bed, cover it at night or relocate it.
Remove Work From the Bedroom
Desks, treadmills, laptops, and home-office setups bring active Yang qi into a space that should be Yin. If you cannot remove them, hide them behind a curtain or screen before sleep.
Soft Lighting & Nature Tones
Warm, dimmable lighting and earth-toned palettes (beige, soft green, dusty pink, warm greys) calm the nervous system. Avoid bright overhead lights, harsh whites, and aggressive patterns.
Symmetry for Couples
If you share the bed, ensure both sides are accessible (no bed pushed into a corner), with matching nightstands and lamps. Symmetry signals equality and mutual respect at the energetic level.
What to Avoid
- Bed under a window
- Bed with feet pointing at the door
- Overhead beams directly above the bed
- Water features (fountain/fish tank) in the bedroom
- Mirrors directly facing the bed
- Work desk visible from the bed
- Clutter under the bed
