How the Energy Chart Calculator Works

Our calculator uses the traditional Chinese calendar conversion, specifically, the sexagenary cycle that pairs the 10 Heavenly Stems with the 12 Earthly Branches. Given any Gregorian date and time, we:

  1. Convert your birth date to the traditional Chinese calendar (accounting for Chinese New Year and solar terms)
  2. Calculate the Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch for your year, month, day, and hour
  3. Identify your Day Master (top character of Day Pillar)
  4. Assess the elemental distribution across all eight characters
  5. Generate personalized interpretation based on classical principles

The calculation itself is traditional and deterministic, two people born at the same time and place will produce identical charts. The interpretation is where experience and context turn raw data into personal insight.

What You Need to Know

Birth Date

Year, month, and day. Any Gregorian date from 1900 to present works.

Birth Time

As precise as you have it. If uncertain, estimate within a 2-hour window, the Chinese day is divided into twelve 2-hour periods.

Birth Place

City and country, so we can apply the correct time zone and local solar adjustments.

Don\'t know your exact birth time? Ask a parent, check your birth certificate, or estimate. The time affects the Hour Pillar (one quarter of your chart); a reading without exact time is still substantially useful.

Do I need my exact birth time?

What time zone should I use?
