Pathway Through the Body

Begins at the inside of the big toe, runs up the inner leg, crosses the genital region, and ends at the side of the chest. The internal branch reaches the eyes and the top of the head.

Function and Daily Activation

Stores blood and detoxifies it during deep sleep, ensures smooth qi flow throughout the body (which is why liver imbalance produces so many varied symptoms), governs sinews and ligaments, and opens to the eyes. The deepest detoxification happens between one and three in the morning.

Common Imbalances

Common imbalances appear as irritability, premenstrual symptoms, eye strain, tension headaches, sinew stiffness, alcohol intolerance, and disturbed sleep between one and three in the morning. Anger held in the body lodges in the liver meridian.

Practices to Strengthen This Meridian

Sleep through the one to three window (do not wake to work or eat); reduce alcohol and processed foods; eat green leafy vegetables that support liver function; practice movement that releases the side body and hip flexors; honor anger as information rather than suppressing or exploding it.

How This Connects to Your Energy Chart

In the platform's Yin Yang Five Element framework, the Liver corresponds to Yin Wood. People whose Day Master (日主, the Heavenly Stem of the day pillar in their Energy Chart) carries the same Yin Wood signature often have a constitutional resonance with this meridian: when it flows well, they feel like themselves; when it stagnates, the symptoms are amplified compared to other constitutional types.

For your personalized constitutional profile, view your Energy Chart or read about the 60 Jiazi pillars that combine stem and branch signatures.
