Lung Meridian
Yin Metal channel governing the body breath, immune barrier, and the rhythmic exchange between inside and outside.
Pathway Through the Body
Begins at the upper chest near the shoulder, travels down the inner arm along the thumb side, ending at the inside of the thumb. The internal branch connects to the lung organ and large intestine.
Function and Daily Activation
Governs respiration, descends qi, regulates the immune barrier (wei qi), opens to the nose, and rules the skin and body hair. The first meridian to receive qi at the start of each daily circulation, peaking between three and five in the morning.
Common Imbalances
Common imbalances appear as shallow breathing, frequent colds, dry skin, allergic conditions, and unresolved grief carried in the chest. People with weak lung qi often feel exhausted by their environment without knowing why.
Practices to Strengthen This Meridian
Practice slow deep breathing in early morning hours; spend time in clean fresh air; consume white foods that moisten the lungs (pear, white fungus, almond, lily bulb); honor grief that the body is holding rather than suppressing it.
How This Connects to Your Energy Chart
In the platform's Yin Yang Five Element framework, the Lung corresponds to Yin Metal. People whose Day Master (日主, the Heavenly Stem of the day pillar in their Energy Chart) carries the same Yin Metal signature often have a constitutional resonance with this meridian: when it flows well, they feel like themselves; when it stagnates, the symptoms are amplified compared to other constitutional types.
For your personalized constitutional profile, view your Energy Chart or read about the 60 Jiazi pillars that combine stem and branch signatures.
