The Top 30 Acupoints in TCM

The thirty most commonly used acupoints in clinical practice and self care, mapped to their meridians, locations, primary uses, and acupressure applications. Acupressure is generally safe; needling requires a licensed practitioner.

How These Points Are Used

Acupuncture and acupressure work by stimulating specific points along the meridians to regulate qi flow. The thirty points listed here are the workhorses of clinical TCM: the points an acupuncturist reaches for again and again. Some are named for their classical functions (Spirit Gate calms the spirit, Three Mile of the Foot supports digestion); others sit at strategic intersections of multiple channels.

For self care, acupressure (firm finger pressure for one to two minutes per point) is the safest approach and can address many common patterns: ST-36 for digestive support, LV-3 for stress, GB-20 for tension headaches, HT-7 for sleep difficulty. Always consult a licensed practitioner before needling, and note pregnancy contraindications where listed.
