Worry
The metal emotion (also affecting earth) that knots qi when sustained, the most common modern emotional pattern.
Healthy Expression
In healthy expression, mild concern is appropriate when caring for others or for projects that matter. It motivates careful preparation. The healthy adult relationship to worry is to convert it into either action (do something) or release (let it go).
When It Becomes Pathological
Sustained chronic worry knots the qi in the chest and binds the spleen capacity to digest. Modern productivity culture and continuous information exposure make chronic worry one of the most common patterns in TCM offices today. It rarely appears alone; usually combines with worry related lung qi deficiency and spleen qi deficiency.
Somatic Manifestations
Tightness in the chest, shallow breathing, fatigue after eating, soft stools, easy bruising, foggy thinking, sleep difficulties (especially difficulty falling asleep), heaviness in the limbs, certain digestive bloating patterns, eczema flare ups during stressful periods.
Practices for Restoring Balance
Set explicit boundaries on news consumption and social media; reduce information inputs to what genuinely matters; eat warm cooked food at regular times (worry depletes spleen); practice converting worry into action or release within five minutes of noticing it; chest opening movement (yoga, qi gong); breath practices.
Will Worry (the emotion that injures the Lung and Spleen) actually work for you?
Worry (the emotion that injures the Lung and Spleen) carries a Metal signature, the element associated with grief patterns, weak immunity, difficulty letting go, autumn dryness. But whether your specific pattern needs more Metal support or whether Metal is already excess in you is the difference between this approach helping or hurting. Your free Energy Chart reveals which of the Five Elements run strong, weak, or out of balance in you, the foundation for selecting the TCM and wellness practices that actually fit your discipline and immunity pattern across past, present, and future.
